Among the cards and gifts came the message I wanted to hear over and over again, “be filled with the love of God.”

Yes, my family and friends remembered what it’s like to “be there for each other.” They blessed me with sunshine and surprises and all the inner wishes of my soul. They wanted me to be happy and healthy, to reap the rewards of the giving and sharing I’ve done: “May the love you’ve planted along the way come back full bloom for you today.”

And through all of “life’s most precious blessings” sent my way, the only one that is unconditionally there for me is this unlimited love of God.

I know full well that this love is not a one-time promise or a one-way street with God doing all the giving. My responsibility here, my invitation comes in these words: “May you quietly await the movement of grace, and when it comes, move gently with humility, fidelity, and courage.” (Joanne Gallagher, CSJ of Gracious Mystery Mandalas)

I tuck all these loving memories of my birthday cards and gifts into my heart space. I gather all these gracious blessings into my soul as food for the journey – a pilgrimage into even more love of God than I have ever known.

It begins today, right here, in this moment – as easy as taking the first step: “Walk in grace. Be kind. Be wise. See God’s world with caring eyes. Have a hopeful point of view. Life’s a gift and so are you.” (Hallmark ecards) That’s why I chose the Celtic Knot for the illustration for today’s post. It reminds me that everything is interrelated, it all fits together – the natural and supernatural, the everyday and the special, the human and the divine.
