istock_000003953171xsmall.jpg I know the power of music to heal. I’ve used it many times to bring myself into the calm after a storm in my life. I recommend it to my clients to ground themselves. In Peter Hwosch, I met both the healer and the musician.

Peter is widely recognized as a recording and performing musician and composer. But he also produces documentaries as part of the Compassionate Listening Projects he facilitates.

I met Peter on a wintry Wisconsin night on March 3, 2008. He was part of an alternative healing evening. I had the privilege to help the audience transition between the first presenter and Peter.

I read a spiritual allegory, “The Light Within.” It’s chapter 4 from my newly released book, Pathways: Tales for the Spiritual Seeker. I chose this story because it focuses on our connection to Source.

Without that connection to the Divine, none of our outreach attracts in the volunteers or funding it needs. None of our efforts empower others to create a better life for themselves. None of us have the courage, insight, and opportunities to keep on giving.

At the end of the story, we were ready for Peter’s music and presentation. His video featured the reconciliation between warring factions in the Balkans. The discussion was about raising consciousness and encouraging diversity. Peter explained the peace making efforts he facilitates with the young people in these projects.

At the end of the evening, we were inspired and challenged with the everyday mysticism of this musician and humanitarian. I felt that each of us left that evening with a little more Light within than what we came with.
