Recently I received an email from someone in Singapore asking, “I’m looking for a place to know my true self. Kindly let me know where is that place.”

Where is that place? Closer than you think! You don’t have to buy a plane ticket to get there. You don’t have to make reservations with a retreat center. You don’t have to leave wherever you are at right now. The only place you need to go to is inside of yourself.

Your place of self-discovery and understanding is already here inside of you. It’s always here, always available, yours for the asking. It does not demand your attention. It does not yell at you if you avoid it. It does not send you emails or text you 24 hours a day if you don’t stay in touch with it.

Your Inner Self, your True Self, the Real You is closer to you than your own heartbeat and your own breath. This part of you totally respects your freedom and your choices. This part of you completely and unconditionally loves you, supports you, and wants to help you become healthy, wealthy, and wise.

How do you get there? Be still. Learn to be still inside and outside. Find a quiet place to be by yourself for a few minutes. Get away from every thing that could distract you or interrupt you. Be aware of your mind chatter, your ego thinking, that endless rambling of thoughts in your head. Your awareness is the start of your inner stillness.

Then ask: “Who am I?” “Who is asking this question?” Be still. Be patient and wait for a thought, a feeling, an awareness. Ever so gently wait and be aware. Over and over again ask these questions and wait for a response.

After ten minutes or so, pay attention to how you feel. Sometimes the first time you do this, your only answer may be a sense of calmness or a feeling that you were heard. Notice if your energy shifted.

Try journaling, drawing, or composing music – whatever creative outlet you have for letting your True Self communicate with you from inside out.

Then come back and let us know how this is working for you. Drop a line in the response box below (or click on the comment link in Facebook) and share your thoughts with us.

I’m looking forward to hearing from you.
