Among the cards and gifts came the message I wanted to hear over and over again, “be filled with the love of God.”

Yes, my family and friends remembered what it’s like to “be there for each other.” They blessed me with sunshine and surprises and all the inner wishes of my soul. They wanted me to be happy and healthy, to reap the rewards of the giving and sharing I’ve done: “May the love you’ve planted along the way come back full bloom for you today.”

And through all of “life’s most precious blessings” sent my way, the only one that is unconditionally there for me is this unlimited love of God.

I know full well that this love is not a one-time promise or a one-way street with God doing all the giving. My responsibility here, my invitation comes in these words: “May you quietly await the movement of grace, and when it comes, move gently with humility, fidelity, and courage.” (Joanne Gallagher, CSJ of Gracious Mystery Mandalas)

Spiritual bankruptcy, karmic debt, and borrowed energy are just as real and devastating as foreclosures and unemployment. If you want to know what your spiritual economy looks like, take a look around at your relationships, your job, your bank account!

Everything that is part of your reality today is here because of what you were thinking and how you were feeling yesterday – and the week before that – and the month before that.

The more conscious you become of what you are thinking and the feeling, the more awareness you bring into your daily living.

The more awareness you live with, the better choices you are going to make. The choices you make in what you think, how you feel, what you do, are going to create the better life you want and deserve.

That’s the focus of the work I do with Spiritual Response Technique. Here are three
steps I share with my students and clients to help them stay in the power of awareness and consciously choosing their best life ever!

This Decree of Abundance is a gift from Maureen Moss, steward of The World Puja Network.

She invites you to share it, proclaim it, believe it!

That’s when you’ll see things change in your life.

DECREE OF ABUNDANCE

“From The Light of God that I Am.
From The Love of God that I Am.
From The Power of God that I Am.
From The Heart of God that I Am.

I Decree:

I dwell in the midst of Infinite Abundance. The Abundance of God is my Infinite Source.

The River of Life never stops flowing. It flows through me into lavish expression. Good comes to me through unexpected avenues and God works in a myriad of ways to bless me.

I now open my mind to receive my good. Nothing is too good to be true. Nothing is too wonderful to have happen. With God as my Source, Nothing amazes me.

Are you on the road of wellness, prosperity and wisdom? Or do you find yourself on the dead end streets of scarcity, illness, and not knowing how you got there?

Whether we’re talking about your body, mind or spirit, you have an internal guidance system more powerful than any Global Positioning System on the market!

When was the last time you sat down and checked in with your body? I mean, have a serious talk with your body and find out what it’s feeling? Are you pushing it too hard? Are you letting it get flabby and out of shape? Are you giving it enough sleep and the right kind of food and beverages? Your body knows how to talk back to you. But it would be so much better to listen to it before it has to trip you up to get your attention.

And that beautiful mind of yours! How often do you give yourself permission to do something creative like journaling or drawing and crafts? How often do you let yourself really think? I mean, something deeper than grocery lists and the agenda for the next meeting? How about tip toeing into your own cave and conversing with your Inner Wisdom? What do you want to know about yourself? What do you want to ask for? Where do you need some help in your life right now?

For some of us, our red zone buttons activate and set off a five-alarm scene before we know what happened.

It doesn’t have to be that way! If you’re one of the folks caught too often in the front lines of verbal warfare and its aftermath, there’s help on the way.

Here are three easy and safe ways to help yourself through the chaos and turmoil that may happen around you.

First, be aware of what is happening inside of you because it’s all about you anyway. No one can push your buttons! No one can make you feel anyway you don’t want to feel!

People and situations seem to trigger you, but it’s your free choice to react and respond in any way you want. If you are habitually and instinctively aggressive and intolerant, then look inside and see what’s going on. Your goal here is to learn how to be patient and passive.

Second, breathe and get grounded. Cool down that hot lava screaming through your veins. Listen to the frenzy of thoughts racing through your mind. Do you hear accusations, judgments, and blaming about to leap off the tip of your tongue? Another deep breath and let it go.

What you are experiencing is not rational thinking. This is what it feels like to be under an ego attack – yours! Your ego is feeling threatened, insecure, and losing face somehow in what was just said or done by some one else. Your ego is kicking and fighting to stay on top at all costs. Like I said before, your reactivity is all about you.

When obstacles are everywhere and the darkness is oppressive, life can feel too hard, even bitter.

It’s not meant to be that way. And when it gets like this, it’s time to recharge your spiritual batteries.

You’ve got enough Inner Light for the journey. You’ve got enough Source Energy to make it through to the end. But like so many energy packs and batteries we use every day, there are times when your spiritual power gets drained and needs amping up.

Trust is one of the biggest recharging stations. Trust infuses your Inner Light with permanence and staying power.

Are you charged up for your spiritual journey? Eager for a vision quest? Willing to stretch yourself and raise the bar?

At times like national Make A Difference Day, it’s inspiring to be caught up in the fiery enthusiasm and ideals that get things done in local communities! Then it’s easy to feel on purpose with your life.

But imagine what you would feel like if you put a day like that in your calendar once a month! There is no shortage of opportunity to serve. There is no limit to the ways to love. This helpfulness is the source of sweetness in your Inner Light. Helpfulness brings a feeling of satisfaction and fulfillment. Both the giver and the receiver have something to savor from thoughtful service.

Where would you go? Whom would you serve? What are the most gracious things you could do for others with your time? What is it that you are really good at sharing from the depths of your own life experience? What cause are you so passionate about that it pumps you up and keeps you involved and dedicated?

Take a good look — a deep long look! Study someone’s face. Feel yourself becoming open to seeing more than the physical and the obvious.

Look beyond the hairstyle, the imperfections of skin and facial structure. Look beyond anything and everything you think you know about this person. Allow yourself to catch a glimpse of soul!

Makeup can dress up a face with a cover girl look. But beauty is way beyond good looks. Beauty is what I call inner radiance or Inner Light. It is the awesome shining out of soul in subtle rays of brilliance and warmth.

We all have a soul and we all have Inner Light. Sometimes it needs some amping up, like adding fuel to a fire. I like to think that goodness brings out the glow in our Inner Light.

During this winter season of cold and short days in the upper Midwest of the USA, I’m sharing some reflections about Inner Light.

Some time ago I wrote that love is the foundation and first inspiration for Inner Light.

In those earlier posts, I mentioned how to be more light through love, how to bring more light through love into your own space and the lives of others. If you want to read those posts again, click on the category for LOVE in the sidebar of this blog.

In this post, I’m going to introduce another facet of Inner Light — initiative. For me, initiative is the fire in Light.

Not much happens if we are standing around and waiting for someone else to say something or do something.

None of us have the one and only answer to the question. None of us have the one and only solution to the problem.

What are you looking for? Survival things like food, shelter, and clothing? Necessities like a job, income, and safety? An upgrade in the life style you already have?

If you find yourself in need, be still and go within. There you will your Inner Self, a most loving and devoted part of yourself with only your best interests in mind.

There is no one who knows you like your Inner Self. There is no one who promotes you, supports you, and wants you to have the best life ever than your Inner Self.

Ask this most powerful part of you to show you where to find what you need whether that’s housing, food, a job, or a lover!

Ask and wait for the answer. Then pay attention to what you hear from others, who you meet, possible opportunities unfolding around you.

Recently I received an email from someone in Singapore asking, “I’m looking for a place to know my true self. Kindly let me know where is that place.”

Where is that place? Closer than you think! You don’t have to buy a plane ticket to get there. You don’t have to make reservations with a retreat center. You don’t have to leave wherever you are at right now. The only place you need to go to is inside of yourself.

Your place of self-discovery and understanding is already here inside of you. It’s always here, always available, yours for the asking. It does not demand your attention. It does not yell at you if you avoid it. It does not send you emails or text you 24 hours a day if you don’t stay in touch with it.

Your Inner Self, your True Self, the Real You is closer to you than your own heartbeat and your own breath. This part of you totally respects your freedom and your choices. This part of you completely and unconditionally loves you, supports you, and wants to help you become healthy, wealthy, and wise.

Love does not have an expiration date. Love is not a game where some win and some lose. Love is not a contest where only a few get the prize.

“Every ordinary thing in your life is a word of God’s love: your home, your work, the clothes you wear, the air you breathe, the food you eat, the friends you delight in, the flowers under your feet are the courtesy of God’s heart flung down on you! All these things say one thing only: ‘See how I love you.’” (Caryll Houselander)

Now take that perspective into your own life experience and run with it!

Look at whatever you do to make a living for your family. Reflect on how all those things are ways you fling your heart down around them, ways you are saying, “See how I love you.”

Don’t count the shortcomings here or the mistakes. Don’t focus on how much better all this could be. True love doesn’t keep score. Simply look at the reality of what you can do now, what you can give now, and accept that as your way of loving at this time in your life.

In the USA, one of the highlights of our 2008 will be the presidential campaigns – who ran and who won. In some other circles, the headliner event may be the World Series, a Championship Game, or the Olympics.

As the year is winding down, some folks may conclude that the stock market losses, the recession, and our huge government bailouts are the focus of their attention.

It’s inevitable that we choose sides. We pick our heroes and heroines. We root for our team and champions. We support the platforms and policies we believe in. We choose between Wall Street and Main Street.

Christmas Eve is one of those big days for love in many places around the world! Christians believe and celebrate the birth of Jesus as Emmanuel, God With Us. They recount their salvation history and the role of Jesus as Messiah, Savior, and Redeemer.

Every major religion has a belief in a Divine Source, an Infinite Love. Every spiritual seeker yearns for the assurance they are loved, protected, and guided by a Higher Power.

And love is more than believing. “Love bears all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” (1 Corinthians 13)

These are some of my favorite lines from Corinthians. I think of them whenever I remember my 25-year old niece undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments for cancer.

I think of these words whenever I read about some one left homeless by a fire, tornado, or earthquake.

These are the words that come to mind when I hear stories on the evening news about survivors and volunteers, young and old living every moment of life with courage, faith and hope.

“Love does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered.” (1 Corinthians 13)

Earlier in the year, Eckhart Tolle was featured on Oprah. She chose his book, “A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose” for her book club. She also hosted a series of Monday night web shows discussing the book with Eckhart Tolle, answering questions, and talking to viewers from around the world.

Whether or not you are into Eckhart Tolle, his writings about the ego and the pain body, many of us still know what reactivity is all about!

This is perhaps one of the most challenging aspects of love – not to talk back, not to explain ourselves, not to defend our opinion, not to get riled up when confronted or irritated or annoyed.

I’m not talking about defending ourselves in an abusive relationship or where we need to speak the truth for justice to prevail.

I’ve always been told that if it’s the truth, it’s not bragging to talk about yourself and your accomplishments.

The point here is, don’t embellish it with arrogance.

Whether it’s holiday parties or family reunions, corporate outings or networking events, there are always clues that someone is not speaking with love.

For example, have you ever heard someone speak as if:

  • their opinion is the only right one?
  • they have a copyright on brilliance?
  • they’ve been genetically altered to show up at the head of the line?

Every now and then a client will ask me, “What is true love?” Usually that comes in the middle of our discussion about ego, pain body, transference, and all the other fatal attractions that happen between human beings.

Just because it feels good – even if it seems to feel totally unlike any other experience of love you’ve ever had until now – that does not mean it’s love.

Just because you feel so connected to this person – even if it feels like the two of you have known each other forever – that does not mean it’s love.

Just because everyone you know is saying that the two of you are the perfect couple or meant for each other, that does not mean this is love.

And finally, even if a psychic tells you that you are soul mates or twin flames, that does not mean you have to or should spend the rest of your lives together.

So how do you know what true love is?

I live in Wisconsin in Central USA. Virginia is over towards the eastern end of the states. I’m not planning on driving there or flying for the Christmas season, but my heart is already running around those country roads.

In the December issue of “Open Roads: Open Hearts, Open Minds,” I have the privilege of writing the feature article. “Let There Be Light: How to Make It, Keep It, and Share It’ begins with the Chinese proverb: “Don’t curse the darkness – light a candle.”

Looking around nature, the economy, and international politics, we can find many places to bring more light right now.

  • As the days shorten with the onset of winter and the nights get longer, we need more light!
  • As the talk of recession and economic instability gets louder, we need more light!
  • As natural disasters claim homes and lives in all parts of the world, we need more light!
  • As many people close the door and want to be left alone in their black hole of depression, we need more light!

And obviously, as you’ve guessed by now, I’m not talking about turning on the ceiling lights or even lighting more candles.

Do you ever feel like you’re not “in” the place you want to be? Do you feel like you’re not doing what you’re really passionate about?

If you said “yes” to either one or both of those questions, there’s good news for you. You don’t have to pack up and move someplace else. You don’t have to quite your job and go back to school to learn something else.

Here are three quick ways to find out what you need to get there from where you are now:

1. What do you really want?

If you’re working overtime or a second job to buy more stuff, what do you want from those things? Security? Self-esteem? A healthier lifestyle?

If you’re working long hours, under a lot of pressure and just want more time, what are you going to do with that extra time? Family bonding? Relaxation? Volunteer in the community?

Knowing what you really want helps cut through all the clutter in your mind and your feelings. Now focus on those end results you just named.
